From the airport you’ll have direct access to train, bus, taxi and hotel transport to get you to and around town.

Travellers from mainland China and Macau - by ferry/train

For Mainland residents, please check your valid travel document(s) (e.g. two-way permit and visa港澳通行證與簽注) before you enter Hong Kong.

In Shenzhen there are several Checkpoints to enter Hong Kong including Lo Wu (6:30-24:00), Fu Tian (Lok Ma Chau) (6:30-22:30), Huanggang (24 hr), and Shenzhen Wan (6:30-24:00). For more information about checkpoints, please click here.

Local MTR train connets to the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau checkpoints in Shenzhen. The MTR runs regular through-train intercity services between Hong Kong and Guangdong province, Beijing and Shanghai.

Octopus card

The Octopus card is a multi-usage smart card charging for the public transportation in Hong Kong, making it easy to enjoy Hong Kong’s public transportation system. You can loan an Octopus at any MTR customer service centre with a refundable deposit of HK$50. More information about the Octopus card here.

Currency

The legal tender in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD), which is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of about 7.80 HKD to 1 USD, although exchange rates may fluctuate slightly. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at airports, banks, hotels and currency exchange stores. All major credit cards are widely accepted in Hong Kong. See more about HKD exchange rate.

Electricity

The standard electrical voltage in Hong Kong is 220 volts AC, 50Hz. you might need a transformer for any appliance or electrical equipment. The majority of electrical outlets in Hong Kong take a three-pronged UK-style plug:

Local Hong Kong time is Greenwich Mean Time +8 hours.
